I'm using Synology NAS, connected to Shield and it's perfect solution for home personal Plex server. Shield supports direct NAS connection and you can mount any of your NAS directly to Shield.

You can use NAS in much better way with Shield. I was testing some Synology NAS solutions and they had issue even encode 1080p video with reasonable framerate. Forget NAS, these are powered by super slow CPUs and they are way behind Shield in encoding capability unless you want to spend thousands for X86 CPU powered NAS. Shield is much more power efficient solution.

PC is obviously much more powerful with more users to serve, but your power requirement is over 10x higher. Currently Shield could make 2 stream encode + one native playback. If you want to have 3+ users every day with MKV 8mbits and higher it's hard for Shield to encode all streams. I would say it depends what you expect from your Plex server. I'm using Shield as Plex server for over the year.
